James is the author of three collections of poetry. His poems have been published widely in literary magazines in the UK, US and Ireland. He reviews regularly and has contributed to academic monographs.

He worked in trade publishing for many years, for Penguin Random House, Pan Macmillan and Hachette, as well as advising literary agencies and independent publishers.

He then moved into documentary podcasting, working on the team at Blanchard House to make award-winning limited series for Apple, Wondery, Audible, ERM, and several others.

He also teaches Creative Writing, most recently at Birkbeck, University of London.
